Conduct of Elections

Many public bodies are involved in conducting elections to the Althing, including the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry for Foreign Affairs, the local authorities, Statistics Iceland, the district commissioners and regional electoral commissions. Responsibilities are divided between them to ensure that the overall conduct of the elections will be clear and reliable. Several types of electoral commissions are involved in elections to the Althing: the National Electoral Committee, regional commissions, local commissions and other types in some local government areas.
